NEXT CONCERT

Rachmaninov’s Third Piano Concerto is one of the most demanding and admired works in the piano repertoire. It combines formidable technical challenges with long, singing melodic lines characteristic of Rachmaninov’s style.

Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony stands as one of the most significant orchestral works of the 20th century. The first movement with its stark rhythms and sense of underlying anxiety is followed by a witty scherzo. At the emotional core of the symphony is a slow third movement of restrained grief and aching lyricism. It ends with an outwardly triumphant final movement. It was premiered in 1937 in Leningrad to enormous acclaim.

We are delighted to welcome Isabel Hespe as our piano soloist and Tom Newall as conductor.
